Il cavo convertitore FTDI USB a RS485 Serial UART incorpora il circuito integrato FTDI FT232RQ USB a seriale UART, che gestisce tutta la segnalazione e i protocolli USB. Questo cavo convertitore FTDI offre un modo rapido e semplice per collegare dispositivi con interfaccia RS485 a USB. Ogni cavo FTDI USB-RS485 contiene un piccolo circuito elettronico interno che utilizza il FT232R, incapsulato nell'estremità del connettore USB del cavo. L'elettronica integrata include anche il transceiver RS485 più i LED Tx e Rx che forniscono un'indicazione visiva del traffico sul cavo.
